Asbestos Remediation Related Services

Following the identification of asbestos containing materials, it may be necessary to remove or make safe (remediation) asbestos in advance of planned refurbishment or demolition work. Work with asbestos containing materials has to be carried out in accordance with the Control of
Asbestos Regulations 2012, and in general, needs to be carried out by a licensed asbestos removal contractor.

4-RAIL Services offers independent monitoring and support services to allow Clients and appointed removal contractors, to achieve a high standard of asbestos remediation on site. Experienced and qualified analysts and consultants enable work to be well planned, problems on site to be dealt with proactively and efficiently, and safe sites to be handed back to the Client.

Specification of asbestos remediation Consultants draw up specifications for the remediation of asbestos containing materials for delivery to removal contractors to cost against. If required, they can assist the Client in reviewing submitted tenders. Selection of removal contractors will always lay with the Client. Consultants hold BOHS Certificates of Competency.

Air monitoring during asbestos removal or remediation works in accordance with ‘Asbestos: The analysts’ guide for sampling, analysis and clearance procedures.’ HSG 248 (reassurance, leak, personal, 4 stage certificate of reoccupation including decontamination units) (UKAS Test Lab.No.1931). Technologists hold BOHS P403 and P404 qualifications.

Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) In situations where non-asbestos fibres interfere with clearance monitoring or in personal samples, it may be useful to analyse air samples using a Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) (UKAS Test Lab.No.1931).

Site management of asbestos remediation on behalf of the client, including site meetings and liaison with Unions.

Emergency call out services following unforeseen fibre releases e.g. sampling suspect asbestos containing materials; wipe sampling to determine the extent of asbestos contamination for analysis using SEM; airborne fibre monitoring; implementing site controls as required prior to removal of confirmed asbestos materials/dust by a licensed asbestos removal contractor.
