Asbestos Related Services and Solutions
Breathing air containing asbestos dust can lead to asbestos-related cancers of the chest and lungs. There is no cure for asbestos-related diseases, which kill more people than any other single work related cause. Each year about 4,000 people in the UK die of asbestos-related illnesses and this number is expected to go on rising.
The expertise and experience of our highly qualified and experienced staff enables 4-RAIL Services to offer the following asbestos related services :
Sampling and asbestos identification of bulk and soil/ballast samples in accordance with ‘Asbestos: The analysts’ guide for sampling, analysis and clearance procedures.’ HSG 248 (UKAS Test Lab.No.1931). Laboratory technologists hold BOHS P401 qualifications.
Asbestos surveys e.g. of premises, stations, track locations including ballast, trains, power generation sites and within electrical equipment (UKAS Inspection Body No.173). Lead surveyors hold BOHS P402 qualifications. Specialist equipment such as endoscopes are available for surveying difficult to access areas, or where full intrusive access is not operationally possible.
Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) Confirmation of asbestos fibres in wipe and air samples using SEM (UKAS Test Lab.No.1931). 4-RAIL Services is one of the few laboratories in the country that hold accreditation for this type of analysis.
Air monitoring during asbestos removal or remediation works in accordance with ‘Asbestos: The analysts’ guide for sampling, analysis and clearance procedures.’ HSG 248 (reassurance, leak, personal, 4 stage certificate of reoccupation including decontamination units) (UKAS Test Lab.No.1931). Technologists hold BOHS P403 and P404 qualifications.
Site management of asbestos on behalf of the client, including site meetings and liaison with 3rd parties.
Priority risk assessments and re-inspections compliant with management responsibilities under Regulation 4 of the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2006.
Asbestos awareness training tailored to meet the client‘s specific needs.
Consultants hold BOHS Certificate of Competence.
Emergency call out services following unforeseen fibre releases e.g. bulk and wipe sampling; airborne fibre monitoring; implementing site controls prior to removal.
