4RS is at the forefront of original research in atmospheric composition and its impacts
Date: Wed 9th October 20194-RAIL Services is at the forefront of original research in atmospheric composition and its impacts. Simon Hargreaves, Managing Director 4-RAIL Services Ltd has co-authored the now published article Quantification of the influence of NO2, NO and CO gases on the determination of formaldehyde and acetaldehyde using the DNPH method as applied to polluted environments.
‘Airborne aldehydes have a significant impact on human health, especially in confined spaces such as tunnels, vehicle depots, industrial and construction sites where combustion devices are in operation’. This article explores and highlights
- CO reacts with DNPH to form a product that can be mistaken for acetone-DNPH.
- NOx and CO gases interfere with the adsorption of aldehydes onto the DNPH cartridge.
- Nitrogen dioxide and carbon monoxide reduce the capacity of a DNPH cartridge.
- Required amount of DNPH on the cartridge must also take into account the concentration of CO and NO2.
